UnLtd have been working with Higher Education Institutions for the past 5 years across three programmes. In a recent publication we have taken a closer look at a variety of high potential social ventures and the innovative work being carried out by our university partners to support them.

The latest publication from the SEE Change programme consists of eleven case studies highlighting some of the innovative work currently being delivered in the third phase of the programme including a handful of graduate trainee and social entrepreneur success stories.

The full publication can be viewed on the SEE Change site.

Key Learning

The case studies provide insight and learning into new and innovative ways in which the ecosystem of support for social entrepreneurs is being developed. Universities have proven to be a natural environment for graduate trainees. The quality of graduate recruitment has been outstanding and we consider the graduate trainee pilot to certainly be worth replicating in future.

Through our Scale and Growth strand we have been able to share knowledge with our partners of how to support high potential social entrepreneurs ready to scale and how this is practically and intellectually different. Going forward it would be useful to consider how we can reach out to different departments within universities to share this knowledge and practice.

Our innovation partnership strand reveals that partners have required more time to develop their new ideas than first anticipated but it is clear that social innovations are being developed to address specific problems in support methods and progression routes for social entrepreneurs.

A key piece of learning we’ll be taking with us is ensuring that partners have a clear sense of sustainability from the beginning to ensure the long term success of their pilot projects.
